Please take a moment and thank everyone there at Adafruit for doing what you’re doing. In 1969 when I built my first electronic project (audio oscillator using a 2N107 transistor) I had to buy the parts at a local TV repair parts shop. The shopkeeper, seeing the 12 year old kid come into his store, told me to get lost, but after a minute or two I convinced him I was actually there to buy something. Fast forward to 1980 and I could buy my 74xx TTL, Z80’s EPROMS and SRAMS and other electronics surplus via mailorder from places like Poly-Packs, JDR Microdevices, Jameco Electronics, et cetera; and after waiting a few weeks for the paper order form to make it to them and the parts to make their way back to me, I could power-up the Apple ][, dive into the chip data-books, heat-up the soldering iron and start building. Now fast forward to today; the miracle of Adafruit, Arduino (and the like) and the internet lets you not only buy the parts on-line with a few mouse clicks, but there are how-to’s, videos, schematics, sample code, and many other support resources. I feel very lucky to be alive in these times. The Maker Youth of today have a very bright future; hold on for the ride, the next 30 years are going to take your breath away.
