OnePlus 6 will Cause Cancer ? | SAR Values Explained !

What's this article about :

In this article, we are going to discuss SAR values and we will try to find the answer to a simple question - Do Smartphone Cause Cancer? We will also try to understand how we can avoid radiations and how they actually work.

SAR - Specific Absorption Rate

A SAR value is a measure of the maximum energy absorbed by a unit of mass of exposed tissue of a person using a mobile phone, over a given time or more simply the power absorbed per unit mass.SAR values are usually expressed in units of watts per kilogram ( W/Kg) in either 1g or 10g of tissue exposed to the phone.

Every country has a regulatory threshold value of SAR for mobile phone devices and in India, the regulatory unit is around 1.6 W/Kg

In case of Motorola phones especially Moto E, the Head SAR is 1.50 W/Kg and body worn SAR is 1.36 W/Kg. You can always check all the regulatory threshold by typing *#07# in your phone's keypad.

Though the SAR value of Motorola Phones especially Moto E lies within the regulatory limits, the value is quite on the higher side when compared to its counterparts of Samsung, Nokia, Micromax, Lenovo, Sony, etc.

The highest values of SAR are sadly boasted by Motorola Phones ( on an average 1.35 - 1.54) while the lowest enjoyed by likes of Micromax ( 0.4 - 0.6) with blackberry, Apple, Nokia and Samsung, etc coming in between. So while using Motorola Phones, Moto E especially, please try to follow some practices that we will be sharing in this article.

How to Avoid Radiation due to Phone:

1. Try to avoid keeping the phone in your pocket or close to your body when not used for a long time or while sleeping.

2. When signal reception is low, try not to call or continue speaking for a long time. When the signal is low, the phone increases transmission power which can be harmful.

3. Keep calls short or use headsets for longer calls. Better use texting over calls.

4. Wait until the call is connected while dialling. Android phones also come with a setting to vibrate when the call is connected or lifted, try to use this setting.

Conclusion - Do smartphones cause cancer ?

The effects of radiation are well known and the radiation from the cell phones is very small as compared to other radiations around us. No, it's not zero so there are a small risk and possibility that this may cause or increase the risk of cancer later in life. The risk is smaller than other risks that we routinely accept like from smoking cigarettes or even inhaling polluted air. So I personally think its ok to use cell phones as long as you are following the steps given above to avoid radiation due to phones.
