Using old DVD Drives to Make Robotic Projects #Robots

DVD and CD drives have a lot of good hacker parts in them. Lasers! But also two stepper motors and a DC motor. What can be done with all these things?

Above, is a simple inchworm bot by Youtube user GrandadIsAnOldMan using discarded materials and a bit of very clever Making.

Below is a neat X-Y plotter by Youtube user HomoFaciens. He takes two drives and uses a Raspberry Pi to control movements. An additional servo motor controls whether the pen is up or down.
