DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release
Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator/PAL, PortableApps.com Installer/PAI.- Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
- Get the latest HomeBank release.
- Extract the installer by following this guide.
- Browse to HomeBank-5.1.7-setup\{app} extracted folder, and find files with these wildcards,
*,1.*
and delete them,
- Now find files with these wildcards,
*,2.*
and remove the ,2 from their names,
the *,2.* files are the portable binaries, you can check this in the installer's install_script.iss file. - Move License.txt from HomeBank-5.1.7-setup\embedded to HomeBank-5.1.7-setup\{app} folder.
- Copy the content of License.txt to update the App\AppInfo\eula.txt content.
- Select All (Ctrl+A) the HomeBank-5.1.7-setup\{app} contents and move them to HomeBankPortable\App\HomeBank folder,
- Browse to HomeBankPortable\App\AppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. 5.1.7.0 not just 5.1.7.
- Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:\0TEST\HomeBankPortable, and click Go—a new launcher will be created,
- Test the new launchers by following this guide.
- When all is OK, then delete the HomeBankPortable\Data folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:\0TEST\HomeBankPortable, and click Go—to create the installer package.
- Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Don't forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
- If you find any changes that's not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.
Portability Notes
- HomeBank is built with GTK+ that sometime writes to Windows data folders while running. Most of the time it's not, so it could be said Homebank is 100% portable.
- Make sure it exits cleanly before plugging out your thumbdrive.
