How to check if your Facebook account is breached or not

The social media network Facebook had announced a massive security breach which was originally estimated 50 million, but the exact figures were nearly 30 million.

The company has announced on Friday that hackers were able to access  username, gender, locale/language, relationship status, religion, hometown, self-reported current city, birthdate, device types used to access Facebook, education, work, the last 10 places they checked into or were tagged in, website, people or Pages they follow, and the 15 most recent searches. However, there were not able to access sensitive details like passwords or financial information.

Facebook has been quick to take action against the breach and has fixed the problem as soon as they got to know about the vulnerability.

The social media giant started investigating the hack after observing increase pick up on Sept. 14, and by Sept. 27, the attack had been stopped. On Sept. 28, the company informed everyone about the security breach.

The company now plans to start sending an alert to each and everyone whose account has been compromised. Meanwhile, you can find out if your account has been breached or not.

To check if your account has been a victim of a data breach, go to Help Center page on Facebook, and scroll to the bottom, at the end you will find "“Is my Facebook account impacted by this security issue?”

According to Facebook's blog post, they will "explain what information the attackers might have accessed, as well as steps they can take to help protect themselves, including from suspicious emails, text messages, or calls."
