Requirements

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 (Offline Installer), Web Installer.

DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release

Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator/PAL, PortableApps.com Installer/PAI.

1. Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
2. Get the latest HandBrake release—both the 64 bit installer along with the CLI package.
3. Put them in the same folder as the extracted template, in our example C:\0TEST, then extract the bit installer with 7-Zip to HandbrakePortable\App\Handbrake folder,
   
   browse to App\Handbrake folder, delete: $PLUGINSDIR folder, uninst.exe.nsis, and portable.ini.template—we already have portable.ini in App\DefaultData folder.
4. Extract the CLI package to App\HandBrakeCLI folder,
   
   
5. Browse to HandbrakePortable\App\AppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. 1.1.0.0 not just 1.1.0 nor 1.1,

6. Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:\0TEST\HandbrakePortable, and click Go—a new launcher will be created,
   
7. Test the new launchers by following this guide.
8. When all is OK, then delete the HandbrakePortable\Data folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:\0TEST\HandbrakePortable, and click Go—to create the installer package.
   
9. Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Don't forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
10. If you find any changes that's not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.

Portability Notes

• HandBrake have portable mode, but it still writes to Windows data folders while running.
• Make sure it exits cleanly before plugging out your thumbdrive.

Release History

• 1.2: Requires at least Microsoft .Net 4.7.1.
• 1.1.2 rev. 1: Default portable data folder setting changed to configwrite.
• 1.1.2: Since version 1.1.0, Handbrake no longer supports Windows 32 bit.
