Less than a week after the launch of the Huawei Mate X was pushed back for the second time, a new report has revealed what seems to be the final tech specs of the much-awaited folding smartphone. According to Neowin, some of the key hardware in the upcoming device has been upgraded to newer and faster components since it was first demoed at the MWC tech show in Barcelona earlier this year.
As per the report, the Mate X will ship with Huawei’s unannounced HiSilicon Kirin 990 chipset that is also said to power the company’s upcoming flagship phablets, the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. The cameras are also said to have received an upgrade to the latest sensors being used in this year’s P30 lineup, including the 40MP RYYB camera sensor.
The report doesn’t mention any other changes to the device’s hardware, which means it is still expected to sport an 8-inch (2,480 x 2,200) OLED panel, up to 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage and a 4,400mAh battery, all of which were revealed by a recent listing on TENAA. The listing also seemingly confirmed that it will have a 5G avatar, thanks to the Balong 5000 5G modem.
The Mate X was originally expected to launched last June, but following Samsung’s Galaxy Fold debacle, Huawei postponed the launch date to September, saying it’s doing further tests to rule out any possible problems in the future. However, the company last week postponed the launch date yet again, saying it isn’t likely to be released before November.
