Forbes posted up their “Forbes list of America’s 100 Most Innovative Leaders” … (there were 102 people on it) –
Business school professors Jeff Dyer, Nathan Furr and Mike Hendron teamed up with consultant Curtis Lefrandt to measure four essential leadership qualities of top founders and CEOs: media reputation for innovation, social connections, track record for value creation and investor expectations for value creation. The researchers then ranked these visionaries in a high-powered selection of 100 innovators at top U.S. companies.
There were 102 total, “Larry Page and Sergey Brin” are #10 together (CEO and president of Google’s parent company, Alphabet).
And #20 George Yancopoulos and Leonard Schleifer. CEO, president and chief scientific officer.
As a lot of folks pointed out, there was 1 woman on the list, Barbara Rentler, CEO of Ross stores since 2014, Barbara was #75 on the list, and no photo.
There are some independent efforts to make a list that is more accurate and more inclusive, our founder Limor Fried was mentioned (thanks!). In 2018 Forbes included Limor on Forbes “The World’s Top 50 Women In Tech” and in 2011 “Open Source Electronics DIY Kits with Adafruit”.
Randall Lane editor at Forbes posted an article “Opportunity Missed: Reflecting On The Lack Of Women On Our Most Innovative Leaders List” … Randall wrote …
“The core social message—that Forbes’ editors picked 100 innovative leaders, while including only one woman—would anger me too.”
…
“Our methodology was flawed, as well—at a minimum when it came to being more expansive with who was eligible to be ranked.”
…
“Forbes’ brand stems from inclusive, entrepreneurial capitalism—the idea that free markets, open to all, have proved the best-ever system to produce wealth and happiness and solve societal problems. In this year alone, we’ve called for a reimagination of capitalism, produced our first-ever Under 30 event focusing on women and launched an editorial channel focused on diversity and inclusion. After this weekend, add a rethink of America’s Most Innovative Leaders to that task list.”
