Confirming recent rumors, Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Fold will be officially available in Korea on September 6, followed by France, Germany, Singapore, the UK, the US and a few more regions in the coming days. In an official press release on Thursday, the company said that the device will be launched in Cosmos Black and Space Silver color variants, with 5G models available in select countries.
In a separate blog post, Samsung USA said that the device will be available in the country ‘in the coming weeks’, though there’s no specific ETA for that just yet. The company is also rumored to launch the phone in India by the end of this month, but don’t expect to see the 5G model in the country.
In case you don’t know it already, the Galaxy Fold was unveiled alongside the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus last February, and was promptly hailed by many as the future of smartphones before reports of serious malfunction started pouring in from journalists with access to official review units. With the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco still fresh in everyone’s minds, the company postponed the launch of the new phone, saying it will be launched only after all the issues are sorted out.
Samsung now claims that the device is finally ready for prime-time after all the problems were addressed over the past few months. According to the company, it has been working to fix the reliability issues reported by the bloggers and journalists earlier this year and, has managed to improve the phone’s design and construction to not only ensure reliability, but also improve the overall ownership experience.
