Warning: You Will Be Banned
Dear explorers,
Yesterday I met a Fairytrail user who was visiting SF, and he called my dating app the most wholesome dating app he's seen.
Today I decided that I will be more strict with banning horrible people from my app.
A few days ago, I compromised on my values because of fear that she might leave a bad review. Today I don't care. When you don't act like a decent human being, don't expect me to be one to you.
That said, I will keep her identity anonymous.
Here's what happened.
A user complained my app didn't have enough users when I sent her my automated active member email.
So I explained it to her.
Then she was incredibly insulting and spiteful.
I'm a native English speaker, but even if I weren't. That wouldn't be a kind or decent thing to say to an English learner.
So I considered banning her because I don't want my community to be polluted by her type.
After discussing this with my teammate, we decided to keep her on the platform in case she retaliates to the ban with a bad review. Given how few reviews we have, I didn't want to risk it.
Yesterday, she got a match because someone liked her back, and our automated email system sent her a note reminding her to get back to her match. I thought she would be very happy. Her biggest complaint that we couldn't find her a match was finally addressed.
Instead, I got this email from her.
I replied that she can delete her account by going to the settings screen.
And this is what she wrote back.
If you're reading this, you've been deleted and banned from Fairytrail forever.
This Account Has Been Deleted
This is nothing personal against her.
I just wanted to take the chance to be completely clear that this kind of behavior is not tolerated on the Fairytrail. This is my warning to all current and future Fairytrail users.
This is a line in the sand.
This is what we stand for.
We stand for good.
And I won't compromise that anymore for fear of a bad review.
We will ban people to keep our community sincere and kind.
Fairytrail will be the most wholesome dating app you will ever use.
If you don't like it, please delete the app. Go to side menu, tap settings, and then choose delete account. Simple. And unlike many tech companies, we actually delete all your data from our servers because we don't want to pay money to store your data.
Coming into this, I knew online dating can be a dirty business full of scammers, cheaters, and horrible people. But I also know there are people out there looking for love, which I believe to be one of the most important things in life.
It gives
my life meaningknowing I can help improve someone's life in one of the most important ways possible.
There are users like this one here.
And I'm going to do my best to keep my app wholesome and bad people out even if it means making some people very upset and taking a hit on my app ratings.
Can I say one more thing?
The whole fairytale thing, it's actually a test to see if you have any sense of child-like wonder in you anymore. You can be exposed to life's most magical moments and still miss it if your eyes are closed. Choosing "Other" is more telling than you think. (I still need to write a post on why we have this fairytale theme for our app,
subscribe to our blog if you're interested).
As my friend from McKinsey and Madonna always love to say, "you only see what you want to see".
Sincerely,
Taige
