how to fill a cheque lloyds

Example of how to fill out a UK cheque.
  1. Write the name of the recipient ("Mr Jack White") on the first line (top-left).
  2. Write the amount in words on the second line, continuing on the third line if necessary. If the amount is a whole number of pounds, you can write "only" at the end (instead of "zero pence"). For example:
    • To pay £6.50, write "six pounds and fifty pence."
    • To pay £12.01, write "twelve pounds and one penny."
    • To pay £17.00, write "seventeen pounds only."
  3. Write the date the cheque can be cashed on at the top-right.
    • When writing the date, use the UK format of "day-month-year" (and not, for example, the "month-day-year" format used in North America). For example, you can write "25 October 2012" or "2012-10-25".
    • If paying a sign-up fee for a social event, make sure the cheque can be cashed on or before the date of the event.
    • Make sure that there is enough money in your account on that date to cover the cheque: otherwise, the cheque will bounce and your bank may charge you a fee.
  4. Write the amount as a number in the box (centre-right).
    • The pound sign (£) is normally already written on the cheque.
    • Use a comma to indicate thousands and a dot to indicate the decimal point (some other countries use the reverse convention).
    • Use two numbers for the pence, and 00 if it is an exact number of pounds.
    • Examples: "185.08," "12.00," "2,500.05."
  5. Sign the cheque on the bottom-right.
  6. On the back of the cheque, write:
    • Your full name (e.g. "Jane Smith");
    • The event (e.g. "MCR exchange dinner with Exeter College, away leg");
    • The date of the event (e.g. "19 August 2012").
  7. Copy the relevant details onto the cheque stub at the left of the cheque in your chequebook. Keep this stub for your records.
  8. Place the cheque in the Treasurer's pigeon hole (James Searle) in EPH.
On the bottom of the cheque, there are a couple of numbers for your information. The most important one is the cheque number (also found on the cheque stub). If you have to cancel the payment or wish to track the payment on your balance, you can do so using that number.
