Benchmarks: Ubuntu 14.10 VS Fedora 21

The team Phoronix has compared the version in development of Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic with Fedora 21.

Ubuntu VS Fedora
There is no much to the release of Ubuntu 10.14 Utopic Unicorn, the new release "intermediary" that brings with it several updates from Linux Kernel 3.16. Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic also includes several updates regarding open source and proprietary drivers for graphics cards over to the new version of Mesa, etc., update that should make the operating system more responsive and efficient. After the release of Ubuntu 14.10 will debut (one year after the previous release) Fedora 21, new and long-awaited version which will bring with it several optimizations from Gnome 3.14 Improvements for OpenCL etc.

The team Phoronix has already wanted to compare the two new releases of Ubuntu and Fedora by testing on a PC with an Intel processor Extreme Edition i7-5960 octa-core 3.5 Ghz with a dedicated graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2048MB GDDR5 memory with 16 Gb of RAM and a 80GB SSD in which you installed the version in development of Utopic Ubuntu 14.10 and Fedora 21.

Note that the two distributions are the Linux Kernel 3.16 in Ubuntu, however, we find the Unity desktop environment in Fedora 21 7.3.1 while the new Gnome Shell 3.14 same version of X.org (1.16.0) and Mesa (10.3.0 ).

As we can see from the results and the entire test (available from this page) results are very similar between the two distributions. Of the 12 tests performed with Phoronix Test Suite, 7 were won by Ubuntu among them the X264 test where the distribution of Canonical scored 285.57 against 266.17 fps Fedora 21.

I remember, however, that the two distributions are still under development, Ubuntu 14.10 is almost ready to debut while we are still at Fedora 21 Alpha (missing about two months to the release). When you release the stable version is Fedora 21 and Ubuntu 10.14 Unicorn Utopic the results could be quite different from these.
