DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release

Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator/PAL, PortableApps.com Installer/PAI.

1. Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
2. Get the latest PDF Shaper release.
3. Put it in the same folder as the extracted template, in our example C:\0TEST, then extract the installer by following this guide.
4. Move License.rtf file from the extracted C:\0TEST\pdfshaper_free_[version]\embedded folder to pdfshaper_free_[version]\{app} folder.
5. Move pdfshaper_free_[version]\{app} folder contents to C:\0TEST\PDFShaperPortable\App\PDFShaper folder.
6. Go into App\PDFShaper folder then find all *.lng files, move them to App\PDFShaper\lang folder,
   
   
7. Update the App\AppInfo\eula.txt with App\PDFShaper\License.rtf content.
8. Browse to PDFShaperPortable\App\AppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. 8.9.0.0 not just 8.9.0 nor 8.9,

9. Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:\0TEST\PDFShaperPortable, and click Go—a new launcher will be created,
   
10. Test the new launchers by following this guide.
11. When all is OK, then delete the PDFShaperPortable\Data folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:\0TEST\PDFShaperPortable, and click Go—to create the installer package.
    
12. Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Don't forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
13. If you find any changes that's not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.

Quick and Dirty Update

1. Make sure you exit PDF Shaper portable cleanly—check that no PortableApps.comLauncherRuntimeData-PDFShaperPortable.ini file in the Data folder.
2. Delete the contents of App\PDFShaper and App\PDFShaper\lang folders.
3. Do step 2-6 of the "DIY/Do It Yourself" above.
4. Done.

Portability Notes

• PDF Shaper do not have portable mode. It writes to Windows registry and data folders while running.
• Make sure it exits cleanly before plugging out your thumbdrive.
• You can help by sending request to the official developer to add "portable mode" to their future release.
