This announcement is for men who take naps. Taking naps is actually really good for your brain!

Previous studies have shown that the benefits of napping has actually proven to be great to regain your focusing power that you might lose throughout the day without a nap but a recent study conducted by scientists from the Max Planck Institute in Munich, shows that naps are actually better for men than for women.

The term ‘Sleep Spindle’ represents a period whereby the sleeper is in a tranquil state and is boosted when women enter dreamless sleep. 160 adults were analysed with 72 of them women and 88 of them men. Scientists then found out that there is a co-relation between longer night sleeps and more sleep spindles in women which is associated with higher IQ. While for men, there is no such co-relation between longer night sleeps and higher intelligence.

However, an examination of 86 men who were instructed to take 100 minutes of afternoon naps showed the same co-relation of boosted sleep spindles and intelligence as what the scientists had seen in women during night sleeps. This could be due to the difference in the ways the hormones of both sexes work during different times of the day.

Results shown had scientists conclude that the association between sleep spindles and intelligence is more complex than we think but sleep and the benefits of napping is definitely one of factors that aid in intellectual ability.

And if that doesn’t convince you men to take afternoon naps during the day, just know many modern day geniuses and visionaries were habitual nappers such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and Ronald Reagan!
