Fusion of Technology and Theater in AFTER @UnderTheRadar #Theater #3DAudio #WaveFieldSynthesis
Andrew Schneider is bringing AFTER to New York’s Under the Radar festival. Like his previous work, AFTER utilizes technology not usually seen in the theater world.
Via The Public Theater:
Andrew Schneider and his team follow up their revolutionary, OBIE award-winning tech-theater masterpiece YOUARENOWHERE with a mind-bending examination of what constitutes a single life and the endless possible outcomes at the precise moment of death.
Collaborators Alicia ayo Ohs, Alessandra Calabi, and Bobby McElver join Schneider to continue their exploration of hyper-precise trademark design. They command thrilling light and sound effects with deft physical performance alongside a rapid-fire flow of text that blends pathos and humor with intelligence and vulnerability. From the spellbinding chaos of digital machinations and pulsating sensory extremes emerges a poignant, shared consciousness perceiving where we are, how we got here, and what comes AFTER.
Check out the completed Kickstarter page for information on the use of 3D audio:
Wave Field Synthesis unlocks the possibility to explore these philosophical questions through perceptual experience and design – sensory overload and deprivation.
WAVE FIELD SYNTHESIS
We are working closely with EMPAC to replicate the design and construction of their new sound technology system – Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) . AFTER will be the first theatrical production in the world to use EMPAC’s design of WFS.
WFS seemingly does the impossible by creating a virtual sound source in space. It can be thought of as an auditory hologram – a holophone. The sound can move around you, hover close by your ear then move to the next row. It is no different than a sound source moving around you. It just happens that the source is not there.
AFTER runs through January 14 for more information go to the Public.. (Full disclosure, my significant other is a production team member on this piece)
