Nuheat HOME thermostats typically cost upwards of $200. Sergey from the appropriately named Sergey’s blog shaved 1/4 of the cost off while making a totally customized DIY Nuheat controller (I imagine this general design and approach could also be modified for lots of other installations). Suuuuuper impressive project with thorough walkthrough here.
NuHeat floor thermostats are great but have a couple of drawbacks: they cost a lot and they fail from electricity spikes. After two replacements, I decided that a cost of a NuHeat thermostat is sufficient budget for making something cool while not paying NuHeat for their extortive designs.
